Recipe for Strawberry Nut Salad

I got this recipe from my mother-in-law many years ago.  It is a jello salad that is easy to make and sure to please.  I make it every Thanksgiving as none of my family really likes cranberries.  It is also a very colorful and pretty dish to serve at Christmas.

Strawberry Nut Salad

2 pkgs. strawberry gelatin (small boxes)

1 cup boiling water

2 pkgs. frozen sliced strawberries (10 oz.) thawed

1 cup coarsely chopped nuts (I use pecans)

1 pint sour cream

1- 20 oz. can crushed pineapple, drained

3 medium bananas mashed with fork

Combine gelatin with boiling water in large container.  Stir until dissolved, fold in all at once strawberries with juice, drained pineapple, bananas and nuts.  Turn half of mixture into a 12 x 8 x 2 glass dish.  Refrigerate until firm, about 1 1/2 hour.  Spread on layer of sour cream.  Gently spoon on rest of strawberry mixture.  Refrigerate.  Serves about 12.

2nd layer- sour cream is spread on

3rd layer- add the remaining strawberry mixture on top of the sour cream

finished salad. Not the prettiest I've ever made but delicious all the same!
