Daily Prompt: Erasure

Daily Prompt:  You have the choice to erase one incident from your past, as though it never happened. What would you erase and why?

I would erase the night of February 11, 1993.  It was the night that 15-year-old Keri Denise Scheib, along with her boyfriend, Blake Tidwell, and Blake’s mother Pamela Tidwell, were all killed by Danny Lee Ross, Jr., a drunk driver.  Keri was the daughter of a good friend and neighbor of one of my sisters.  Keri’s parents were also acquaintances of mine as well.  I will never forget that horrible night for as long as I live and getting that bone chilling phone call from my sobbing sister telling me that the horrible wreck that all the local TV stations were talking about in our hometown not only involved fatalities, but  involved someone we all knew.  You can read the story here.

As you can see from this article, the man who killed Keri, Blake, and Pamela, has had more DUI convictions (even more since the above article was written).  Prosecutors have called him the poster boy for repeat DUI offenders.  He WILL kill again if they don’t get him off the streets once and for all.  No parents should ever have to go through what these parents have gone through.  EVER.

Yes, I would definitely erase February 11, 1993 and give Larry and Carolyn Scheib their beautiful daughter back.

It so kind of you to wish to erase that night for the sake of a wonderful family that was broken. Of all the posts I read today, yours was the only one that wished to erase an event that affected somebody else. It is so sad to read about Keri. I’m sorry for their loss and yours. This was a very touching post Gail!

Thanks Amba. That was a horrible night and one that I will never forget. The Scheibs are such nice people and Keri was such a beautiful and sweet girl. Every time the man who killed their daughter gets another DUI conviction, it rips open their hearts and they relive that horrible night all over.

    What a lovely tribute.

Drunk drivers should be thrown in a shark tank. Anyhoo, stopping by to see what other wrote form the “Erasure” prompt – yes – I am a day late … would love it if you had time to stop by my place – cheers!

  4. How brave of you to talk about such a distressing experience. I hope that by reading about it people will understand just how potentially dangerous we all are behind the wheel.

  5. Gail says:

Yes, and now we not only have to worry about drunk drivers, we have to worry about texting drivers, who are just as dangerous!!!!!
