After the Rains

I took a stroll in the backyard just before dusk the other night after some late afternoon rain showers.  The frogs were creating their symphony chorus (and quite loudly I might add!) and the first few lightning bugs were starting to appear.  My hydrangeas are loving all this rain, and I, in turn, am loving them.

  1. They’re so pretty Gail! I wish I could grow Hydrangeas.

Thanks. Some years are good for Hydrangeas and other years not so much. Mine haven’t done much in the last 2-3 years but this year, they bloomed like crazy!

      • Hydrangeas tremble when I walk by. Or else they mock me with their beauty. “Look how beautiful we are! You can’t grow us!” I’ve tried. Several times. 🙂

I don’t understand them really. We don’t do anything to ours and they seem to thrive. I’ve heard they can be very peculiar. I read they don’t like to be trimmed and also not to ever cut the dead flowers off after they dry up or it will affect their blooming the next year (we found out the hard way that that was true). My father-in-law gave us a pink hydrangea once and it lived for a couple of years and then just died. We never knew why. It never got big like our others did. I’ve learned the more I fuss over them, the worse they do so I just ignore and neglect them!
