Up until now, I have avoided the block editor and found ways to still post using the classic editor.  Today, I discovered that WordPress has taken those options away.  Block editor is WAY too complicated for this simple blogger.  I will flat out state that I HATE the block editor.  It took me over an hour to post this simple quote and photo and that was after pulling half my hair out and feeling like I needed blood pressure medication.  And I still couldn’t do what I was trying to do.  I gave up.  I don’t have that kind of time to spend on one post.  Who does?  So today, I realized it’s time to either say goodbye to blogging or find another blogging platform.  If anyone knows if there is still a way to get to Classic editor, please let me know.  Thanks.

  1. Oh no Gail! Please don’t leave! I totally understand your frustration. I stumbled with the new editor for a while. Had to learn as I went, but I did learn. https://sprawly.wordpress.com/2018/11/17/testing-the-new-editor/
It’s really a lot easier once you’ve practiced a little. I pretty much just know the basics but I’d be happy to help you out. 🙂

Thanks. I figured out a way to get back to Classic editor for now. I’m sure it won’t be long before it’s taken away too though, just like before. The block editor just has WAY too many bells and whistles for me and it being so complicated takes the enjoyment out of blogging for me. “Block” editor is a good name for it though as I feel totally “blocked” from being able to do what I want to do. LOL.

Well, if you do go elsewhere to blog, write a post here with the URL (even if you can’t link it). I haven’t blogged elsewhere for many years — blogger(dot)com. It may have changed, I don’t know, but its format offerings were incredibly minimal.

    • Gail says:

I think minimal is what I need. I’ve been trying to read up on other platforms. May just have to pick one and give it a try. I found a way back to using the Classic editor for now, although it took a while and wasn’t easy and I’m sure they will soon make it where we don’t have that as an option at all. I’m pretty sure I’ll be done with WordPress for good at that point.

I miss your posts. Do you plan to blog again? I hope so.

      • Relax... says:

Well, sort of — I’d have to start all over from scratch… hmmm, but anyway, thank you! Yes, I’m frustrated with WP, too, along with you and many others. It’s way more complicated than it needs to be. Honestly, I can’t figure out who the changes benefit, nor how! Another frustrated WP blogger says she pays $48/year for one blog and $48/year for another, and she figures she’s paying double for her own aggravation thanks to this Block Editor.

      • Gail says:

I guess I have no right to complain since I’m not paying a thing…. I’ve considered it until I read it is even more complicated. I just don’t think I have the technical skills to be able to self host.

Hope you and the family are doing well and please let me know if you start up another blog. Take care.

      • Relax... says:

I will! You take care, too! 🌷

    Amen to this quote.
