I often think about Mary Magdalene, her importance, and all the emotions she must have felt in the days surrounding Jesus’ death. She had become his good friend. She was there with him at his crucifixion, as his body was raised on the cross. She stayed there supporting him until his last dying breath. She was at his burial. She (either alone or with some other women) was the first to arrive at the tomb to find that the stone had been rolled away. The tomb which was now empty of Jesus’ body. The tomb where an angel (or angels) sat, telling her not to be afraid and that Jesus was not there. He had risen!! He then instructed her to go tell the disciples that Jesus had risen.
Can you imagine Mary’s emotions? I try to. She must have been confused. She must have been so disappointed thinking someone had taken the body of her Lord. She must have been terrified out of her wits. Oh, the adrenaline rush she must have felt! Then she sees the resurrected Jesus. I think about how all her emotions at that moment must have then turned to pure joy.
Alleluia! The Lord is Risen!
Happy Easter to you all!
